Waves

A wave is a phenomenon in which energy is transferred from one point to another without the transfer of any material medium through vibrations.

The Source of any wave is a vibration or oscillation or disturbance.

Types:
  • Transverse waves 
  • Longitudinal waves
Types Transverse Waves Longitudinal Waves
Definition Waves which travel in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the vibration. Waves which travel in a direction parallel to the direction of the vibration.
Example Water waves, EM waves, Light Sound
Watch this video to have a better understanding on the difference. While watching, look at the movement of hand (direction of vibration) and the direction of wave.
