Wave, EM Wave and Sound Question
1. A sound wave of frequency 60 Hz is emitted downwards from a ship. The sound wave is reflected from the seabed and is detected as it arrives back at the ship.
2. RADAR, short for RAdio Detection And Ranging has many applications. It is a system used to detect and determine the distance of objects such as aircraft. Strong radio waves are transmitted and a receiver listens for any echoes. The figure below shows a radar station that has detected an in coming aircraft.
(a) Electromagnetic waves
3. The diagram below shows the waveform produced on an oscilloscope screen by the sound of a band instrument.
(a)(i) The amplitude of the waveform increases, thus loudness increases.
